My Approach
“For me, it always comes back to people. I’ve spent more than 25 years getting to know clients, really listening, and finding a story that is honest to who they are and worth a reporter’s time. I don’t pitch just to pitch. When the story is right, I know how to help it find the right audience, and I work hard to make my clients shine. That’s the heart of it, helping good people get the exposure they deserve.”
Simple idea
“Do our best work all the time and have fun doing it.”
Lasting impact
“Coverage comes and goes, but trust is what lasts, and you earn that by showing up for your clients, the media and your community, each day and every day.”
About Joice Truban Curry
Joice Truban Curry is President and CEO of c3 Communications, Inc. (c3), the nationally recognized San Diego public relations and special events firm she founded on January 3, 2000. She grew c3 from a one-person shop into one of San Diego’s most respected boutique agencies, built on a belief that has never changed: public relations should be personal, passionate and impactful. Before launching c3, Joice served the California State Assembly as a field & press representative, and as the media relations director and national spokesperson for Children’s Hospital and Health Center San Diego, now Rady Children’s Health.
Over more than 25 years, Joice has brought energy and strategic vision to brand and product launches, national touring productions and special events. She has vast experience working in franchising, nonprofit, education, healthcare, consumer product, hospitality, and entertainment industries. Her work has earned more than 25 Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) awards, including three national Silver Anvils, the highest honor in the field. She is a two-time past president of PRSA San Diego, was named Public Relations Professional of the Year, and was recently recognized among San Diego’s Women of Influence and Top Marketing Executives.
Beyond the agency, Joice gives her time to causes she believes in, including The Salvation Army and the Alzheimer’s Association. A proud SDSU alum, she also performs in musical theatre productions throughout San Diego.
Let’s Get Personal
Q: What is your go-to karaoke song, even if no one asked?
Anything from a musical! I've been performing in musicals on stage for 30 years. Hand me a microphone, give me a show tune and I’m all in!
Q: What is one thing people misunderstand about PR?
That it’s about getting as much coverage as you can. It’s not. The real skill is relationships and judgment, knowing a client well, knowing the media, and having a feel for what’s genuinely worth a reporter’s time. Anybody can chase volume. Earning attention that actually helps a client is the challenging part, and it’s the part I love.
